Summary

Clearstream, the post-trade services arm of Deutsche Börse Group and one of the world's two international central securities depositories, expanded its regulated crypto custody offering on July 6 to include six new digital assets: Solana (SOL), XRP, Cardano (ADA), Litecoin (LTC), Stellar (XLM), and Avalanche (AVAX). These join Bitcoin and Ether, which Clearstream has custodied since the service launched in April 2025. The custody runs through Crypto Finance, a Deutsche Börse subsidiary with MiCAR license obtained in January 2025. Institutional clients with existing Clearstream Banking S.A. accounts in Luxembourg can now hold regulated custody positions in all eight assets through a single relationship.

Key Facts

Why It Matters

Clearstream's expansion from two to eight assets signals that European institutional crypto adoption is broadening beyond Bitcoin and Ether. By adding regulated custody at the ICSD level, Clearstream enables asset managers to structure MiCA-compliant exchange-traded products for SOL, XRP, and ADA that can clear and settle through established European infrastructure. This removes a key structural barrier to institutional crypto investment in Europe and positions Clearstream as the primary post-trade bridge between traditional finance and digital assets.
