REF — MiCA Deadline Day: Who's Licensed, Who Left

July 1, 2026 ends MiCA's transitional period. The ESMA Register of Crypto-Asset Service Providers lists 244 authorised entities as of June 30, 2026 — but the meaningful trading-platform count is far smaller, and the largest exchange (Binance) is outside the regime.

• 244 licensed CASPs across 30 EEA markets / 25 national regulators (ESMA register, synced June 30, 2026). Only ~14 entities hold the trading-platform authorisation specifically; licensed platforms already account for an estimated ~95% of EU crypto transaction volume.
• Major licensed exchanges: OKX (Malta, Jan 2025 — first major), Crypto.com (Malta), Coinbase (Luxembourg, Coinbase Luxembourg S.A.), Bitstamp (Luxembourg), Kraken (Ireland), Bybit (Austria), Gemini (Malta — but wound down UK/EEA retail April 2026), Bitpanda (Austria, first in Austria), KuCoin EU (Austria — prohibited from new customers), Gate (Malta). Banks/fintechs too: BBVA (Spain), Trade Republic & N26 (Germany), Clearstream, Société Générale–Forge, Standard Chartered, Sygnum Europe (Liechtenstein), FalconX, plus late adds Ripple (preliminary Luxembourg nod) and Utorg.
• Not licensed / exiting: Binance filed in Greece Jan 2026; HCMC reportedly set to reject (ECB intervention reported); Binance withdrew June 21 and is exploring other EU states — no EU licence as of July 1. Tether/USDT not pursuing MiCA — delisted from Coinbase/Kraken/Crypto.com/Binance EU retail. MEXC, HTX, Bitfinex made no public MiCA application; ~90 unlicensed operators in France alone; many smaller platforms quietly geo-blocked EU IPs.
• Stablecoin shelf narrowed: regulated options = USDC/EURC (Circle, MiCA-licensed in France) + 18 regulated tokens across 14 authorised EMT issuers (12 EUR, 7 USD). Derivatives require MiCA CASP + MiFID II (only Kraken and Gemini among majors hold both).
• Cost & enforcement: licensing €500K–€2M; annual compliance €250K+. France AMF warns serving EU post-deadline = criminal prosecution (up to 2 yrs prison, €30K fine). Poland is the EU's sole MiCA holdout.
